As you know, getting through each year in the world of manufacture can be a struggle but like all of you, with alot of hard work and perseverance we feel we have successfully made it through another year, stronger than ever.

2012 saw us welcome a new member of our external sales force, Dawn Baker. Highly experienced in the adhesive industry, Dawn will be looking after the south of England existing accounts and all new enquiries,  We just know that Dawn is going to fit in well and that she can't wait to get stuck in (excuse the pun!) Alongside a new member of staff, we welcomed the arrival of 'in stock' Orafol products.

Timber Bars and YOU - eliminating failures and increase your profitability

As we all know, timber is an excellent material for windows - it's strong, sustainable, easy to work with and lets face it. beautiful to look at. However, this is not to say it doesn't have its problems. Being the natural product that is is, timber can expand or shrink and even warp and twist due to the environment in which it's placed - nothing is as easy as it seems! What you ultimately don't want, is for your Georgian Bars to fail, resulting in costly call-outs and reworking charges.

So, How much do failure really cost you?

I know what you're all thinking! it's alot! but have you ever sat down and taken into consideration just how much every failure is really costing you - here we find out:

Every failure will ultimately result in a site visit, probably for one of your more experienced people and possibly even you. It takes time to repair bars on site as they have to be carefully prised off, cleaned of any adhesive residue, re-taped and then finally accurately re-applied and lets face it, none of us have much spare time to be spent on, reworking a job already previously completed.
As we are all aware, time is money: and the time that you're wasting could, and should, be spent more productively making and selling your windows. There is also the added costs of fuel, wear and tear on your transport and the additional cost of materials.
Not only is it physical 'cash in the bank' costings, it also has a huge reflection on your reputation. It can only damage long-standing relationships and break down ones that were just starting, and we all know that there a million and one other companies out there ready to steal dissatisfied customers. New windows are a huge investment and customers are becoming more demanding all the time. Problems with the bars can spoil all the hard work and time spent designing, making and promoting your windows.

Now do you see just how much it costs you? I thought so, now read on!

Is there a solution?

We have it and it's not just about the tape you may be surprised to hear, but obviously the tape plays an extremely important part. Half the trouble people have is deciding what tape to use, they do all look similar right? Well, our tapes use the highest performance cross-linked acrylic adhesives and have various technical uses.
They are used for attaching badged and mouldings to cars, under bonnets to withstand heat, vibration and oil: outside they have to put up rain, salt, desert and arctic temperatures. Our tapes bond the roofs on to commercial vehicles, used for large external signs, bonding and sealing conservatory roofs, and of course they are used to bonding Georgian bars to windows and have been for over 10 years, and to put it  bluntly, they work.

So what do you need to know about us then? Well, we have published our findings and recommendations in a new report that is available free to window manufacturers with absolutely no obligation. This report will tell you:
  • About timber and why it can cause problems
  • About paint systems and what to look out for
  • The importance of accurate cutting, with examples of good and bad practice
  • Yhe best tape systems; different tapes for factory and on-site application
  • About glass cleaning and how it can make matters worse
  • How to apply bars quickly and accurately to save time and mistakes
What have you got to lose! Contact us now on: 01628 642800 or at sales@technibond.co.uk and request our 6 Point Guide.

This could well and truly improve your products and reducing your costs! Do it now!

Selling our 'Point'

Now, we're not normally ones to blow our own trumpet, but when talking about Point of Sale tapes, Technibond's range is pretty much everything you've been looking for. Ever been in one of those sticky situations when your customer suddenly demands 'X' amount of banners/flyers for a new marketing campaign that's needed yesterday? Not only have you got to sort the product out, the last thing you need is to be thinking of the adhesives and how to apply it quickly, efficiently and cheaply - there just isn't enough time!

Here at Technibond, we know exactly how that feels, so in order to make your life a little easier, we have produced the perfect range of Point of Sale tapes, that are
  • Cost Effective
  • Are with you on a Next Day Delivery (if ordered before 2pm)
  • Come in 3 different and diverse ranges
  • Can help you solve the problems of tricky surface bonding
Our products are not like others: we are not based purely around price. Granted, everyone would like the cheapest prices but you cant always guarantee you're going to get an adhesive that works first time, every time. The worst case scenario is the product failing and incurring re-working costs: they're not only expensive, time consuming but also completely un-necessary. We can even test new or unusual materials, even difficult varnishes and give you direct advice on what product can suit you so you don't have to go round every 'tom, dick, and harry'

So, you like the sound of this? Introducing the three tapes that will solve your problems:

Economy
Standard grade, double sided tissue tape that will provide excellent performance on most surfaces.

Premium
Within the Print finish environment the demand for new inks and high gloss UV varnish has caused many problems for bonding due to theitr low surface energy. For this we recommend our Premium tape, an ultra high-tack product, for secure bonding to UV varnishes. Also works well on many rough and stiff substrates.

Premium Fingerlift
This fingerlifted version of our Premium tape enables extremely quick and easy application. The over sized paper release line allows the paper to be easily grasped and removed.

Still undecided? Take a look at our helpful chart to point you in the right direction:

The Four Point Checklist - Have you checked?

It's always difficult when starting any kind of new project - you're faced with many different questions and with not many answers! Not only is it difficult to make the right choices, it also imperative to avoid costly mistakes that could jeopardise any up and coming venture. This is why, here at Technibond, we have come up with the Four Point Checklist  to help you specify the right tape for your exact needs.

Getting the best tape for a new project:

Collecting together a few essential facts before the project begins, will save time and expense later. Here are the four most important questions we would normally ask about a new project:

1) What is the application?
This gives us a general "feel" for the project and may pre-empt some of the later questions. We may well be able to relate our experiences of other similar applications back to you, and this means you can avoid problems we have seen before. Or it may be a completely new challenge!

Included in the application will be whether the adhesive needs to be permanent, removable or is for temporary positioning.

2) What are the two materials being bonded?
Obvious, of course, but please bear with us when we ask "what sort of plastic?", "what sort of rubber?", "what sort of paint?" Get as much detail as possible, it really does help. If you only know the product by a trade name, try to get hold of a data sheet; it may save time having to look the material up if we do not know it.

This information will tell us most of the following:
  • Whether the two materials are rigid, semi-rigid or flexible (this will determine whether we recommend a foam tape of a thin tape)
  •  Whether the surfaces of the materials are likely to be smooth or rough (this will determine the adhesive coat weight and tack required)
  • The chemistry of the surface; whether it is high, medium or low surface energy (this will determine the adhesive type required)
  • Whether the material is likely to be plasticized or contaminated (this will also influence the adhesive type)
3) What are the environmental conditions?
There are two sets of conditions to consider: the conditions under which the tape is applied, and the later conditions in use. Consider the following:
  •             Indoor or outdoor?
  •             Exposure to UV light, water and solvents?
  •             Lowest temperature under which the tape may be applied?
  •             Lowest and highest temperature in use and is it short term or long term?
4) Your production conditions
We want to maximize your production efficiency and minimize production costs so we will determine:
  •             Is it to be machine applied or hand applied?
  •             In your own factory or subcontracted or by outworkers?
  •             Is it a high volume application where spools may be appropriate?
  •             Is it for component assembly where die-cut parts may be appropriate?
If you have any new project in mind, then please call one of our experts on 01628 642800, and they will run through the above questions, and help make sure there is nothing you’ve overlooked.
In this way you’ll end up with a tape that is fit for purpose, and you can rest assured that you won't be paying more than is necessary.
